The Sandy Port Development Company Limited is one of the largest developers in the Bahamas and the Sandyport Marina Village project is now one of Nassau's best addresses. Colonial Harbour is the fifth and final phase of this waterfront, gated community.

The project was begun in the early nineties and was inspired by Port Grimaud near St Tropez in France. The developers commissioned world famous French architect Francoise Spoerry (who designed Port Grimaud) to lay out Sandyport and set the style constraints. The village is designed to have everything within walking distance, and every plot has a mooring for a boat. The company is majority owned by the Buckner family. The Buckners are originally from the UK and moved to the Bahamas thirty years ago. Mr Hugh Buckner is Chairman of the Board and Mr Garth Buckner is President. Both have served on the Board of Directors of the Bahamas Real Estate Association and Mr Garth Buckner is an immediate past-president of the Association. The company is a member of the Urban Land Institute in the US and the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce.
